The Kettle Valley Railway

A train travels across railway tracks suspended by wooden beams on steeply inclined ground. A person stands on the tracks in the bottom right hand corner.

A bridge on fire. The bridge is supported by wooden beams and is connecting two pieces of land separated by a dip.

The photo above shows the original wooden trestle over the west fork of Canyon Creek in 1915. The Okanagan Mountain Park fire of 2003 destroyed the Kettle Valley trestles (second photo) and was a devastating blow to Kelowna as well as to the thousands of people who regularly biked or hiked the rail line. The trestles were fortunately restored to look very much like the originals (third photo). The platform across the ties, with railings on either side, ensures safe usage. | Kelowna Public Archives 5548 / H. Brust Collection QKVRT1 / Sharron Simpson Collection
