CROFT, Peter, rock climber (b 18 May 1958, Ottawa, ON). He grew up in NANAIMO, where he was introduced to the outdoors by his father. He took up ROCK CLIMBING in his teens and became one of the world's leading climbers, noted for amazing free solo ascents. Among his many accomplishments are a free climb of the University Wall on the STAWAMUS CHIEF with Hamish Fraser in 1982; a free solo ascent of 4 major routes in a single day in the BUGABOOS in 1983; a complete traverse of the Waddington Range...
