Collison, William Henry


COLLISON, William Henry, Anglican missionary (b 1846, Ireland; d 1922, Kincolith). A schoolteacher in Cork, he arrived at METLAKATLA in 1873 with his wife, Marion Goodwin, an experienced nurse. After 3 years working there with William DUNCAN, the couple established the first permanent mission to the HAIDA at MASSET on the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS. Collison was ordained a priest in 1878; shortly afterward he returned to Metlakatla and took a key role in mitigating the tensions that had developed...
