Cloak Bay


CLOAK BAY is on the west side of Langara Island, the most northerly of the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS, facing out into the Pacific. The first European trader in the Charlottes, Capt George DIXON, arrived in the bay 2 July 1787, finding the HAIDA eager to trade. His trader, William Beresford, described how they "fairly quarrelled with each other about which should sell his cloak first." Maritime traders visited the bay regularly for the next 2 decades.
