Sunshine Coast


SUNSHINE COAST refers to the coastal strip north of VANCOUVER, from west HOWE SOUND to DESOLATION SOUND. The UNION STEAMSHIP CO borrowed the term in 1925 from Harry Roberts, a ROBERTS CREEK pioneer, and in one of its brochures promised "Sunshine and Sea-charm along Holiday Shores on the Gulf Coast." The area actually receives more sunshine than Vancouver but less than VICTORIA. The largest communities are POWELL RIVER, PENDER HARBOUR, SECHELT and GIBSONS, the latter familiar to television...
