Powell River


 

POWELL RIVER, city, pop 13,157 (2016), is located on the mainland coast 130 km north of VANCOUVER. (The population of the surrounding qathet REGIONAL DISTRICT is 20,070.) It is named for Israel Wood POWELL, who was superintendent of Indian Affairs when he visited the area aboard the Royal Navy vessel HMS Rocket.
