NELSON, Hugh, businessman, politician, lt gov 1887–92 (b 25 May 1830, Larne, Northern Ireland; d 3 Mar 1893, London, England). He arrived in BC in 1858 hoping to make a fortune in the goldfields (see GOLD RUSHES). Instead he got into the transport business at YALE, where his BC & Victoria Express connected the CARIBOO to the coast. After selling out to F.J.
