YALE, pop 169, is on the FRASER R 32 km north of HOPE. Rapids in the river to the north mark the approximate northern extension of Coast SALISHAN territory. Coast Salish people visited this part of the Fraser R Canyon to fish and archaeological evidence of human settlement dates back about 10,000 years.
