King Island

KING ISLAND, 824 sq km, is a mountainous island at the north end of FITZ HUGH SOUND on the middle coast east of BELLA BELLA. It is separated from the mainland by DEAN CHANNEL to the north and Burke Channel to the south, both routes used by marine traffic to reach BELLA COOLA. It was named by Capt George VANCOUVER in 1793 after the father of his friend and fellow officer James King.
