Heiltsuk


HEILTSUK  () First Nation, or Bella Bella people, traditionally occupied the Central Coast along FITZ HUGH SOUND and up Burke Channel and DEAN CHANNEL. Their language is Oowekyala-Heiltsuk (see FIRST NATIONS LANGUAGES) and they are related to the KWAKWAKA'WAKW (Kwakiutl) and HAISLA within the Northern subgroup of the WAKASHAN family. They migrated seasonally to different resource sites to take advantage of the territory's abundant supplies...
