Cary, George Hunter


CARY, George Hunter, politician (b 16 Jan 1832, Essex, England; d 16 July 1866, London, England). A lawyer in London, he was appointed attorney general for the new GOLD colony of BC in 1859. When he arrived in VICTORIA, Gov James DOUGLAS made him attorney general for VANCOUVER ISLAND as well. Within 4 months of his arrival he defeated Amor DE COSMOS in an election and entered the House of Assembly as the representative from Victoria.
