CANADIAN FOREST PRODUCTS LTD (Canfor) was started in 1938 by John Prentice and Poldi Bentley, 2 textile manufacturers fleeing Nazi-occupied Austria. It began as Pacific Veneer Co in NEW WESTMINSTER and manufactured BIRCH and SPRUCE plywood for the construction of fighter planes.
