Secretary Islands


Secretary Islands (48˚58'00" 123˚35'00" In Trincomali Channel, off N end of Saltspring I, Gulf Is). Named in 1859 by Capt George Richards because of the islands’ proximity to Southey Point on Saltspring I. James Southey was secretary to Rear Adm Robert Baynes, cdr-in-chief on the RN’s Pacific Station, 1857–60. See Southey Point for a more detailed biography.
