Nonooa Rock

Nonooa Rock (49˚16'00" 124˚06'00" Entrance to Nanoose Hbr, S of Wallis Point, SE side of Vancouver I, NW of Nanaimo). Nonooa or Nonooas is an old version of the word Nanoose, which in turn is a corruption of the name of the original Island Halkomelem inhabitants of the region, the Snaw Naw As, who have a reserve on Nanoose Hbr. See Nanoose Bay. The rock was named by the hydrographic service in 1944.
