Nanoose Bay


Nanoose Bay (49˚16'00" 124˚12'00" Head of Nanoose Hbr), Nanoose Harbour (49˚16'00" 124˚10'00" NW of Nanaimo, SE side of Vancouver I), Nanoose Hill (49˚16'29" 124˚09'36" NE side of Nanoose Hbr). Nanoose Bay refers to the community, Nanoose Hbr to the body of water. The word is a corruption of the name of the original Island Halkomelem inhabitants of the region, the Snaw Naw As, who have a reserve on the harbour.
