Ibbetson Point


Ibbetson Point (54˚03'00" 130˚42'00" N end of William I, off NW Porcher I, SW of Prince Rupert). Named by Capt George Vancouver in 1793 after his friend John Ibbetson, who served a number of administrative roles at the Admiralty, 1755–95. In 1763 he was appointed secretary to the Board of Longitude and later also became secretary to the directors of Greenwich Seamans’ Hospital. From 1783 to 1795, at which point he retired, he was 2nd secretary to the Admiralty itself. W
