Walter's Cove


WALTER'S COVE is a remote FISHING settlement on Walters Island, near the entrance to KYUQUOT SOUND on the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND. Early residents were Scandinavians from the WHALING station at CACHALOT, which closed in 1924. Long a centre of the commercial SALMON fishery, it has a population of about 30 people served by a store, a school and an outpost hospital established by the Red Cross in 1937.
