Kyuquot Sound


KYUQUOT SOUND is one of the 5 major sounds indenting the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND south of the BROOKS PENINSULA. Accessible only by air and water, it is scattered with islands and rocky shoals. The inner sound divides into 5 narrow inlets. It is the traditional territory of the Kyuquot First Nation of the NUU-CHAH-NULTH (Nootka), who now occupy their principal village at Houpsitas (Kyuquot Village) near the northern entrance to the sound.
