Stoney Creek


STONEY CREEK, pop 855, is a DAKELH (Carrier) community 11 km south of VANDERHOOF. Known in the local language as Sai-kuz, the site became a village during the 1890s as people began moving to it from the surrounding area, attracted by the productive fishery. Trapping, hunting and commercial FISHING have supported the local economy, along with wage employment in LOGGING, MINING and construction.
