VANDERHOOF ( ), district municipality, pop 4,390 (2001), lies in the NECHAKO R Valley at the geographical centre of BC, 97 km west of PRINCE GEORGE. It is within the territory of the DAKELH (Carrier) people; the protohistoric village of CHUNLAC was located nearby. The townsite was laid out by the GRAND TRUNK PACIFIC RWY when it was laying track through to PRINCE RUPERT prior to WWI.
