Starret, Martin Stevens


STARRET, Martin Stevens, fur trapper, forester (b 17 July 1888, Hope; d 7 Jan 1973, Hope). At age 17 he joined a railway survey crew, then worked as a ranch hand in the SKAGIT Valley. In 1909 he joined his mother at HAZELTON, where she opened a store, and he began crossing to BABINE LK to trap and trade furs. For the next 34 years he lived in the Babine district, ranching, trapping and working for the FOREST SERVICE. At the end of his life he was back running a trap line in the Skagit Valley....
