ST EUGENE MISSION, a historic OBLATE mission to the KTUNAXA people, is located on the ST MARY R north of CRANBROOK in the east KOOTENAY. Father Leon Fouquet was the first Oblate to settle here, in 1874. He attracted a band of Ktunaxa led by Chief Joseph, whose descendants are now known as the St Mary's band.
