Smith, Sidney Garfield


SMITH, Sidney Garfield, logger (b 7 Feb 1882, Saginaw, MI; d 7 Feb 1969, Vancouver). He dropped out of high school in his senior year, moved west and worked at a variety of jobs before joining the Larson Lumber Co at Bellingham, WA, in 1905. In 1911 he came to BC to work for BLOEDEL, STEWART & WELCH at Myrtle Point as an axeman. Two years later he was superintendent of the company's camp near POWELL RIVER.
