Skookumchuck


SKOOKUMCHUCK  () is on the LILLOOET R, 50 km south of MT CURRIE. It was originally a Lil'wat (Lillooet; see ST'AT'IMC) village, Ska'tin, located at an important FISHING site. The present name means "strong water" in CHINOOK JARGON. During the 1860s it was a stopping place on the DOUGLAS TRAIL to the Interior.
