Shirley

SHIRLEY, an AGRICULTURAL and LOGGING settlement 40 km west of VICTORIA on southern VANCOUVER ISLAND, was originally a stop on the Telegraph TRAIL. It was named by Edwin Clark, the first postmaster, after his home in Hampshire, England. The LIGHTHOUSE at nearby Sheringham Point was automated in 1989.
