Pacific Biological Station


PACIFIC BIOLOGICAL STATION is a federal marine research facility established in Departure Bay at NANAIMO in 1908. Rev George Taylor, a naturalist and Anglican cleric, was a strong advocate for the creation of the station, and he served as its first director. Over the years PBS staff developed much of our current knowledge of fisheries in BC, and conducted pioneering research on OCEANOGRAPHY and limnology (see LAKES) while unravelling the life cycle of the SALMON.
