Okanagan Landing


OKANAGAN LANDING, a sheltered landing site on OKANAGAN LK 12 km south of VERNON, was the terminus of the CPR-owned SHUSWAP & OKANAGAN RWY completed from SICAMOUS in 1892, and the northern port for the PADDLEWHEEL STEAMBOATS, which began plying the lake in 1893. The community, which included a lakeside hotel, profited from its strategic location until the 1920s, when CNR built a branch line from KAMLOOPS to KELOWNA.
