Nazko

NAZKO, pop 315, a DAKELH (Carrier) settlement 75 km west of QUESNEL on the Nazko R, was strategically located near the Great Road or NUXALK-Carrier Grease Trail (see ALEXANDER MACKENZIE HERITAGE TRAIL). Today it is the centre of a remote ranching (see CATTLE INDUSTRY) and LOGGING district. Farther south, closer to ALEXIS CREEK, Nazko Lks Provincial PARK is a wilderness canoeing destination. The name means "river flowing from the south."
