Jones, Effie

JONES, Effie, political activist (b 1889, England; d 1985, Vancouver). During the 1930s she was a principal leader of the Housewives League, a women's organization that lobbied on women's rights, the cost of living and other issues. Following WWII she organized the Civic Reform Assoc (CRA) which for many years monitored the activities of VANCOUVER city council. In 1946 she ran unsuccessfully for mayor as a CRA candidate.
