Granite Bay

GRANITE BAY is an almost landlocked basin on the northwest corner of QUADRA ISLAND, north of CAMPBELL RIVER. LOGGING began at the end of the 19th century and the camp was one of the major coastal operations of the BC MILLS TIMBER & TRADING CO. Logging attracted a number of Finnish settlers, several of whom moved down from the colony at SOINTULA after it collapsed. From 1910 to 1925 the Lucky Jim Mine was in operation not far away.
