CRICKET was one of BC's first sports, starting in 1849 when a captain of the Royal Navy introduced cricket equipment to FORT VICTORIA. The formation of the Victoria Pioneer Cricket Club followed a few years later and huge crowds regularly showed up at BEACON HILL PARK to take in games.
