Connaught Tunnel


CONNAUGHT TUNNEL is an 8-km railway tunnel beneath ROGERS PASS. From the time the CPR laid its main line over the pass in 1885, AVALANCHES were a constant problem. The worst accident occurred in 1910 when 62 CPR employees on a plow train were buried—the most railway-related fatalities in a single accident in BC history.
