Collings, Charles John


COLLINGS, Charles John, artist (b 1848, Chudleigh, England; d 1931). As a young man he worked as a solicitor's clerk and in business, learning to paint in his spare time. He did not begin exhibiting until he was middle-aged and initially his watercolour landscapes did not sell well enough to provide an income. In 1910 he immigrated to Canada with his family and settled at SEYMOUR ARM on the north side of SHUSWAP LK, where he intended to take up fruit farming and continue painting. A 1912...
