CLEARWATER, pop 4,960, on the N THOMPSON R 122 km north of KAMLOOPS, is the gateway to WELLS GRAY PROVINCIAL PARK. The Simpcw people, a division of the SECWEPEMC (Shuswap) nation, have a long history in the area. The settlement was founded around the turn of the century and named Raft River.
