Chatham Sound

CHATHAM SOUND is a broad channel on the North Coast off PRINCE RUPERT, between the mainland and Dundas and several smaller islands. It connects the north end of HECATE STRAIT with PORTLAND INLET. It is named for John Pitt, second Earl of Chatham and First Lord of the British Admiralty from 1788 to 1794. The LIGHTHOUSE on Green Island in the sound, constructed in 1906, is the most northerly light on the coast.
