CAAMAÑO, Jacinto, Spanish naval officer (b 8 Sept 1759, Madrid, Spain; d after 1820, Guayaquil, Ecuador). He entered the Spanish navy as a teenager and went to New Spain (Mexico) with other young officers in 1789 to strengthen the naval establishment at San Blas, which supplied the California settlements, and to explore the North West coast.
