Brew, Chartres


BREW, Chartres, first chief inspector of PROVINCIAL POLICE (b 31 Dec 1815, County Clare, Ireland; d 31 May 1870, Richfield). A veteran of the Royal Irish Constabulary and the Crimean War, he was asked to become chief inspector of police for the new colony of BC in 1858. When he arrived, Gov James DOUGLAS also appointed him chief gold commissioner.
