BOWSER, pop 1,432, is a community on the east side of VANCOUVER ISLAND looking into GEORGIA STRAIT 66 km north of NANAIMO. It is named for William J. BOWSER, BC premier 1915–16. The ESQUIMALT & NANAIMO RWY arrived in 1914 and a post office was established in 1915.
