BAILLIE-GROHMAN, William Adolphe, sportsman, land developer (b 1 Apr 1851, London, England; d 27 Nov 1921, Austria). Raised in Austria and Ireland by well-to-do parents, he became a big-game hunter, mountain climber and world traveller. He came to BC in 1882 on a hunting expedition and later embarked on a scheme to reclaim the flatlands at the south end of KOOTENAY LK for agriculture.
