BC LIONS is the name of the CFL franchise awarded to VANCOUVER in 1954. Annis STUKUS was brought from Toronto to coach, manage and promote the FOOTBALL team and he quickly signed up 8,500 season-ticket holders. He also lured Arnie Weinmeister, a future NFL Hall of Fame lineman, from the New York Giants. BC's first touchdown, by fullback Byron BAILEY, was the lone highlight of their first game, a loss to Winnipeg on 28 Aug 1954. The next 7 years were plagued by more losses and ineffective...
