Worlcombe Island


Worlcombe Island (49˚21'00" 123˚27'00" W side of Collingwood Channel, off SW side of Bowen I, entrance to Howe Sd, just NW of Vancouver). While the precise origin of this name is not known, it is believed to have been applied by Capt George Richards of the RN survey vessel Plumper about 1859–60. Worlcombe may be a misspelling of Woolcombe or Woollcombe and perhaps refers to an RN officer of that name, possibly Vice Adm George Woollcombe (b 1795).
