William Head


William Head (48˚21'00" 123˚32'00" S end of Parry Bay, SW of Victoria, S end of Vancouver I). Named in 1846 by Capt Henry Kellett of HMS Herald after Rear Adm Sir William Parry, the famed Arctic explorer. See Parry Bay for biographical details. The promontory of William Head was the site of a quarantine station, 1894–1958, where passengers and crew from arriving vessels (especially from Asia) were screened for infectious diseases.
