Wilks Island

Wilks Island (52˚44'00" 129˚17'00" Just W of Turtish Hbr, off NW side of Aristazabal I). James Wilks was a BC pioneer who came to the province about 1870. He is believed to have worked as a liquor vendor in N Vancouver and may have taken part in the Victoria old-timers’ reunion of May 1924 (see Adams Bay). Information on him is sketchy, however, and it is difficult to determine which of several early James Wilkses in the province might be commemorated here.
