Whaling Station Bay


Whaling Station Bay (49˚32'00" 124˚36'00" NE side of Hornby I, W side of Str of Georgia). After moving their whaling base from Cortes I (see Whaletown) to Hornby I in 1870, James Dawson and Abel Douglas joined forces with the Lipsett Whaling Co to form the BC Whaling Co. By 1872 they had almost completely depleted the stock of humpback whales in the Str of Georgia.
