Walsh Rock


Walsh Rock (52˚38'00" 128˚57'00" SW entrance to Laredo Channel, off E side of Aristazabal I). Sapper Thomas Walsh (1831–89), born in Ireland, was a member of the Columbia detachment of Royal Engineers, which served in BC 1858–63. A tailor by trade, he arrived at Victoria in the Thames City in 1859 with the main contingent of men, accompanied by his wife, who gave birth to a son during the long voyage. Sadly, the boy died in BC and was buried at Ft Langley. Walsh stayed on in the colony...
