Union Bay


Union Bay (49˚35'00" 124˚53'00" SE of Comox Hbr, E side of Vancouver I), Union Point (49˚36'00" 124˚53'00" N side of Union Bay). In 1888, BC industrialist Robert Dunsmuir established a townsite at Union Camp, 18 km NW of Union Bay. The camp was originally named after Dunsmuir’s Union Colliery Co, which developed the mines in this rich new coal district, but the community soon changed its name to Cumberland.
