Tyne Point

Tyne Point (49˚12'00" 123˚56'00" NW end of Newcastle I, Departure Bay, SE side of Vancouver I). Named in 1904 by Cdr John Parry of HMS Egeria while re-surveying Departure Bay. He chose Tyne Point because Newcastle I, with its valuable coal reserves, had earlier been named for the ancient English coal-mining centre of Newcastle upon Tyne.
