St John Point


St John Point (49˚31'00" 124˚35'00" E tip of Hornby I, Str of Georgia). Lt Frederick Edward Molyneux St John (1838–1904), from Newcastle, served on the Pacific Station, 1859–60, aboard HMS Tribune, under Capt Geoffrey Hornby. He was one of a troop of Royal Marines brought from China to BC to maintain order during Britain’s dispute with the US over the San Juan Is. The feature was named by Capt George Richards of HMS Plumper in 1860. After leaving the service, St John came back to Canada...
