St Ines Island


St Ines Island (48˚58'00" 125˚22'00" W of David Channel, SW of the Stopper Is, Barkley Sd, W side of Vancouver I). This feature appears as plain Ines I on the manuscript chart prepared by Capt George Richards of HMS Hecate in 1861. By the time the chart was published in 1865, however, the name had been changed to St Ines. The derivation is unknown. St Ines is generally considered to be the same person as St Agnes, who suffered a martyr’s death in 301 for refusing to marry the son of a Roman...
