Spencer Ledge


Spencer Ledge (48˚25'00" 123˚16'00" Between Hecate Passage and the Chain Its, E of Oak Bay, off SE tip of Vancouver I). This feature, named in 1862 by Capt George Richards, probably commemorates RN officer John Wellbore Sunderland Spencer (1816–88) of HMS Topaze, who served on the Pacific Station, 1859–63, as commodore of the station’s southern division.
